NJTSS-CA: Shared Understanding and Legal Foundations

Course Description

This course establishes the shared language and legal foundation needed to address chronic absenteeism in New Jersey schools. Learners review the role of ESSA accountability and New Jersey statue 18A:38-25.1, which requires a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) when 10 percent or more of a school’s students are chronically absent. Through narrated content learners explore the six required CAP components, including analyzing attendance data, identifying common attendance barriers, developing targeted recommendations, outlining communication strategies, engaging parents through surveys, and presenting plans to school boards for approval. This course also answers common questions related to compliance, roles, and timelines. By the end of the course, learners will be able to explain the role of ESSA accountability and state statue in addressing chronic absenteeism, identify the conditions that trigger a CAP, and describe the required components and steps for completing one.
